Paul and I celebrating being married for one year. We can't celebrate our one year anniversary since it won't be until 2012. That's the fun of being married on leap day. Anyway, we snuck away to the Westin Book Cadillac in downtown Detroit. It's a refurbished hotel that I've wanted to stay at since I heard it re-opened. And we ate at Michael Symon's Roast. Both the hotel and the meal were amazing.
I booked a hotel room and made arrangements for food, drinks and extras. They even left chocolate covered strawberries in our room. I think they even upgraded us. Our room was amazing! We had a huge corner suite with windows on two sides. The views were fabulous. We had dinner at 8:30. I had a unique and very delicious beet salad. The cheese in it was so creamy! For dinner I had a whitefish with huge pieces of crab meat. We're definitely going back. Wanna join us?
Part of our room deal was breakfast in the morning and when we checked in we were told that we could stay until 4 p.m. on Sunday. Jackpot!
More later.....
Sad that I started this post on Monday. Now it's Friday but here comes the rest.
We lazily hung out in our room most of Sunday. We had a delicious (fortunately free) breakfast and meandered over to a nearby old haunt of Paul's for lunch. We finally headed home around 3.
I have one minor complain that has eased as the week went by but I'll share it nonetheless. I am of the belief that the way we celebrated one year of wedded bliss lays the ground work for the rest of our years. So, I tried to do it in a big way. It was our paper anniversary so I created a little paper with notes of how much I love Paul and look forward to many years ahead of us. I also, by accident, found the coffee grinder that Paul wanted, bought and wrapped it up for him. I also bought two cards because they were both perfect. In the midst of the opening, I was told that I was getting nothing. Wait! Paul does have a project in the works in his potter class that he's giving me. Otherwise, I got some loving and kind words. No card. No gift. No flowers. And yes, I'm a little disappointed.
